A public child welfare agency’s approach to information management embeds the leader’s vision for working with children, families and communities into the daily collection and dissemination of information throughout the system. Modeling an “information management consciousness’ by top-level leadership is a key component in developing a strong sense of the importance of information management issues. Leadership must help define and support a coordinated and collaborative approach to creating effective information management within agencies and across agencies. Otherwise, the process becomes siloed and reactive rather than proactive and interoperable.
